Grab Bars / July 26, 2018 / Albertina Davide.
If you install on or two bars on each side the problem is eliminated. Dont worry - grab bars come in a variety of shapes and sizes so that you can fit them in even the tightest spaces to lean on or even in front your toilet so that you can grab onto it and pull yourself up. If the idea of putting smooth metal in your hands doesnt make you feel any safer you can pick up attachments that allow for a better more firm grip. Grab bars can go anywhere they dont have to be in your bathroom but it definitely helps if you need that kind of assistance. If you need one in your kitchen feel free to put it there - these items screw into the wall and once theyre in there they wont be coming out any time soon. If you are worried that they will be ugly and not match your tasteful décor try looking for ones that are brushed bronze or even ones that are ornate enough to suit your homes style.
Who really wants their shower or bathroom to look like a hospital room or somebodys grandmother lives there? There in lies the challenge with choosing a grab bar for a shower or bathroom project in a residential home. The first places these types of safety handrails were used were in institutional settings (hospitals schools etc.) where function and security were all that mattered. These original bars did not need to win any style points. This situation no longer exists. Fortunately people are living longer and they want to stay and enjoy their homes - but unfortunately most existing shower and bath spaces dont function well if a persons mobility is not what it used to be.
Grabbing onto the bars helps people who have limited mobile abilities maintain their balance. Individuals with disabilities will require grab bars to be installed in their homes especially if they do not have someone to care for them throughout the day. The chances of falling or slipping while in the bathroom are always relatively high even with individuals who do not have limited mobile abilities. In the bathroom there is a lot of water supply. Each time someone washes their hands or takes a shower they might accidentally leave a few small puddles of water on the tile ultimately creating a hazard for anyone who enters.
Determining if you need a smooth or textured grip Identifying the length of the bar - these units can vary in length from 24" to up to 54" long. Consider looks and style -function is important - a stylish design combined with function is even better. Determine if you would prefer a healthier product- Some bars are made with Saniguard to reduce the risk of bacteria mold and mildew. Step 2 - Design in safety for new home or remodeling project - If youre building new or remodeling now is a fantastic time to plan for your future needs. When the project is in the rough framing stage add wood backing in places where you think you might need some type of support in the future.
